The Lanka Mahila Samiti was founded in 1930 and pioneered the establishment of women’s societies in rural areas linked to the parent body through a network of voluntary and semi voluntary extention workers. The activities and the work of the LMS movement are entirely focused on rural women.
The Lanka Mahila Samiti (LMS) is a National Non-Governmental Organization which is recognized as the pioneering women’s organization working for the progres of the rural women in Sri Lanka. It was incorporated by the Ordinance No.47 of the State Council of Ceylon in 1947and currently registered with the Ministry of Social Services (No. 0162) and declared as an approved charity.
